2017 CHURINGA grenache mataro shiraz by KT

Wines by KT are small, lovingly cared for parcels of fruit that have traditional techniques used in their creation. I’m passionate about the township of Watervale 5452 and am working with dry grown, sustainably farmed vineyards in the area. With gentle care from grapegrower to winemaker, it’s my intention to produce wines with drinkability and personality.

My new Churinga red blend release is a celebration of the Churinga vineyard site and represents the best of the red grapes from the 2017 vintage. It’s a blend of Grenache, Mataro and Shiraz. Stylistically it’s full of all of the dark, brooding fruits that these varieties offer along with brightness and succulence. Its silky and velvet like texture is mouth coating but finishes with a slate like rocky tannin.

Hand harvested, the individual parcels were wild fermented in open fermenters and basket pressed. The wine was matured in French oak puncheons and barriques for 18 months to ensure that the fruit is the defining feature. 2017 Churinga is a blend of 55% grenache and 25% mataro and 20% shiraz.
