Wines by KT are small, lovingly cared for parcels of fruit that have traditional techniques used in their creation. I’m passionate about the township of Watervale 5452 and am working with dry grown, sustainably farmed vineyards in the area. With gentle care from grapegrower to winemaker, working with sustainable principles, it’s my intention to produce wines with drinkability and personality.
Churinga GMS 2017
My new red blend release is a celebratory and unique coming together of the Churinga vineyard's best red grapes from the 2017 vintage. It’s a blend of Grenache, Mataro, and Shiraz. Stylistically, it’s full of all of the dark, brooding fruits that these varieties offer along with their brightness and succulence. Its silky and velvet-like texture is mouth-coating but finishes with a slate-like rocky tannin.
Hand-harvested, the individual parcels were wild fermented in open fermenters and basket pressed. The wine was matured in French oak puncheons and barriques for 18 months to ensure that the fruit is the defining feature. 2017 Churinga is a blend of 55% Grenache and 25% Mataro and 20% Shiraz.
Churinga has a rich red loam soil overlying slate and these dry grown vines are shoot thinned, hand pruned, and handpicked to ensure the best possible fruit selection each season.
